NOTIFICATIONS – my client wants to receive automated notifications of particular data events. The Konect User Guide (4.7.1) shows how to send a text to users. Is there a way to send data-driven alerts? (alternative is to do it in Power BI).
-

Sure – the client operates a fleet of machinery to carry out field tasks. There’s a variety of forms relating to tasks, staff and machines. You can run a routine report, say weekly, to plan servicing, but let’s say a machine breaks down and needs repair. This is recorded on the form and should trigger an alert to the workshop.

@mattgbm or others, any update on this? Could an alert be created in the API? It can be done in Power BI, but my client has not set this up yet.

We have settled on using the API and a Python script in conjunction with a messaging service like Twilio. This is being done in one Konect instance we are aware of, using Power Automate.

System planning – would anyone like to share how they plan out a system before building it? An Excel template? A modelling tool such as Visio or Lucid Chart?

Hi @petew. An excel template is what I have used for implementations I have worked on to plan a system before building.
At a high level what I can share are the field names in the excel template I used. By creating 1 tab in a spreadsheet per dataset, created 3 columns in a spreadsheet. These were
– Field Name
– Form Data Type
– Values…Read More-
Thanks Matt. I’ve been using Visio for modelling tables, keys and flows, before starting a build. Could you email me an Excel example please?

When working in difficult GPS reception, e.g. a tree canopy, what are favourite ways to boost reception? Garmin GLO 2 GPS is very cost effective – has anyone got experience with it? Any other suggestions?

FORM BEHAVIOUR – in the list of options, there is -Edit only- and -Create and edit-, but no -Create-. Why is this? For example, in a Trees system, an operator should be able to create a new tree record, but not to open and edit an existing record. Or a chemical application, should not be able to edit an existing record.

Hi Peter,
In Konect Manager we try to keep it simple, so we offer the most used set of permissions. We tend to find users that create a record often need to reopen them again at some stage, which would be in edit mode. The create only option would lock users out of editing the record they just created, the only work around would be to create it…Read More-

Hi Pete, thanks for posting regarding this. Can you provide an example of the data event that may occur on the client side? Let me know and I will seek to provide a more detailed response.
