    System planning – would anyone like to share how they plan out a system before building it? An Excel template? A modelling tool such as Visio or Lucid Chart?

    • Hi @petew. An excel template is what I have used for implementations I have worked on to plan a system before building.

      At a high level what I can share are the field names in the excel template I used. By creating 1 tab in a spreadsheet per dataset, created 3 columns in a spreadsheet. These were

      – Field Name
      – Form Data Type
      – Values Required (what the input data should look like it)

      If more complex querying and/or form variants need to be used, more detail would be required in a solution design document.

      I agree that visio or lucid could be useful if there is a high degree of task tracking/associated project management involved.
