Backup strategies
What are people’s thoughts on backup strategies? As a Konect reseller and service provider, AgKonect has different responsibilities. For retail clients, we alert them that Konect does not backup their system automatically and they need to do it themselves. For managed clients, we have to follow best practice ourselves, with scheduled backups and incidental backups, e.g. when carrying out dev work. Scheduled backups are onerous and AgKonect has been developing an automated system, with KPKs and other file types. We charge for our backup service as a flat fee, and recovery is charged hourly. I’m keen to hear about backup strategies by other resellers and Konect users. GBM might like to consider setting up a central backup service like AgKonect’s, to help all resellers and clients follow best practice. Of course, this would be a commercial system component.2 Comments-

@rshooter I suggest taking a poll of resellers. There’s a substantial cost and technical load in providing this service. It would be more efficient to have a central backup service from GBM (subscription component). Resellers could provide additional recovery services using those backups.

Just a clarification on backups. Global GBM follows a comprehensive set of backup procedures. We back up our entire platform and adhere to a complete set of Disaster Recovery Policies to ensure we deliver Continuity of Service. The issue raised above is about the backup of customer data and projects. As a SaaS provider, our obligation is to ensure Konect is always available; for customer data, the onus falls to the customer to ensure they have the proper procedures in place to protect their information. Our resellers can also play a role by offering backup and recovery services. Global GBM does not wish to cut into the resellers’ business in this space. We could certainly offer a data and project backup service for a fee, but see this as an extended service provided by our network of partners.
